This is strange.
A post from four years ago when Jeremy Corbyn (though misspelled below) was up for leadership of the labour party and I had just stood as a representative for local government. I felt involved and present. It was important enough for me to share my feelings on Facebook. It pops up on the morning after parliament has been prevented from being part of the process of guiding the nation.
My life feels very much as though there are more things beyond my control than I feel comfortable with. Last night, out talking to a friend about how to progress my story, I got into a conversation with a woman named Sue. She introduced herself to me, asking if I remembered her. On Saturday night she noticed me on the bus talking to another friend about a postcard I needed posting. She offered to post it for me. The post box was outside the bus stop and the whole bus watched as she did just what she said she was going to do. It was beyond my control but she honoured the contract. That was a delightful thing to be part of.
Apparently I am more involved than I realise in my own life. I really hope that I can keep going with this. It isn’t always stuff that I can see happening but hopefully the outcome is positive. Beyond the actual posting of the card there is still a whole postal service that needs to get the thing where its supposed to be. We are now in a situation where someone believes they can get us a deal that many of us desire. Metaphorically we are looking through the window of the bus as someone has to honour their, admittedly one sided, contract. In terms of the future I believe ideologically that parliament has stated its opposition but the mechanisms that it runs on have all been used correctly. If parliament can be suspended then it can be suspended. What we are bound by is the need to demonstrate the benefits of a parliament that we are seeing being used in an aggressively partisan fashion. Discomfort aside, I hope I can honour my belief in my ability and I have faith that it has value beyond my ability to observe. I trust that this is possible too in areas that I can’t control.
