Hello everybody. We still have the same routine like many people. On a Monday, we usually go to the Hub café in Selby where the atmosphere is good and the people who serve you are friendly. We also love going in the park in Selby. The park is kept beautiful and the lovely flowers are well cared for.
We do go to North Allerton sometimes when the weather is good, but it is quite a distance from our home in Kippax. We also like going to sit around the river in Wetherby weather permitting.
Today, the weather is beautiful and the sun has not stopped shining. We went to Garforth this morning and then spent the afternoon reading in our lovely garden, soaking up the rays.
Hopefully, we are going to Halifax on Saturday. Recently, it was my husband’s birthday, so, we went to Toby’s Carvery for a celebratory meal. The choice there is great: turkey, beef, pork and a good choice of food for vegetarians.
On our monthly visit to Halifax, we encountered the customary group of men/boys on the train from Leeds, who having acquired their captive audience, shouted to each other at top volume. Luckily, they dismounted at Bradford giving our eardrums some respite.
Then, when we got to Halifax, and the Piece Hall, there was a super collection of vintage cars, all gleaming and immaculate. There was a stunning Mercedes Convertible, a majestic Bentley – and just about every type of car in between. It was a perfect day to exhibit such a superb, gleaming collection of cars!
The vast, rectangular area of the Piece Hall was very crowded with people enjoying themselves in the lovely sunshine. I think the main attraction was the vintage cars, but people were enjoying cafes and eating refreshing ice creams.
Unfortunately, we were just going through the Piece Hall to catch our train, but we wished we could have stayed longer. We wanted to get an earlier train and avoid the usual bedlam. Happily, the journey home was much quieter.
Now, we’re looking forward to visiting Allerton Bywater to watch the boats go by and wave at the friendly people on them. We also like having a picnic round the river and then sit reading. It’s also surprising how many retired people you see walking their dogs there and they always stop to talk to us.
We used to have next door neighbours who were really nice. They moved to the Lake District about 20 years ago; they moved there as they liked to go to Keswick and Buttermere and other places in the Lakes. They had always loved walking in that area, and decided they wanted to spend the rest of their lives in that part of the country. We were invited to their daughter Helen’s wedding which was a grand affair. Yesterday, we received a sad letter from Helen informing us that her parents had passed away within three days of each other. They had always kept themselves fit and active, but Brian was 93 years old and Molly was 80. Not bad ages I suppose. I imagine it is a very difficult time for Helen and her family.
Today, we’ve been at home doing jobs, but hopefully, we will go out tomorrow.
That’s all for now. Love June. X.
