Milo And The Great Wheelie Bin Showdown

To an ordinary household, the rhythmic rumble of plastic wheels on paving slabs might signal nothing more than a routine task. To Milo, however, escorting the wheelie bin to the kerb is a high-level security operation requiring absolute precision and unflinching resolve.

The mission commences every alternate Thursday morning at precisely quarter-past seven. As soon as the back door unlatches, Milo steps onto the driveway, his ginger head held high, his ears perked forward, and his tail pointed straight up like an aerial. He assumes his position three inches to the left of the bin, acting as an official escort to ensure the heavy green container stays strictly on course and does not veer toward the flowerbed.

As the bin rolls toward the front gate, the neighbour’s black and white cat—a notorious intruder—appears atop the fence post, attempting to inspect the proceedings. Milo does not break stride. With a confident, measured gaze and a sharp, authoritative “Woof!”, he sends a clear message: This driveway is under official surveillance. The cat wisely decides to retreat behind a chimney pot.

Reaching the kerb, Milo conducts a swift final inspection. He trots around the wheels, sniffs the edge of the paving slab to confirm the placement is spot-on, and sits down smartly beside the handles. He stays glued to the spot until the dust cart’s distant engine echoes down the avenue, satisfied that the bin is completely secure and the neighbourhood remains in order.

With his duty impeccably fulfilled, Milo turns and struts back up the driveway toward the front door, ready to march straight into the kitchen and demand his well-earned morning biscuit.
