Autumn in the UK brings crisp air, golden leaves, and Milo’s absolute favourite event of the day: the afternoon walkies. Donning his smart green harness, our courageous Chihuahua/Jack Russell cross trots out of the front door, ready to keep the local park safe from rogue pigeons and stray tennis balls.
The park is Milo’s domain, but a heavy downpour from the night before has transformed his usual patrol route into a treacherous obstacle course. Puddles of all shapes and sizes stretch across the gravel path like vast, muddy lakes.
Now, Milo is a dog of refined taste. He loves chasing muddy footballs, but he firmly draws the line at getting his own delicate paws wet. Standing at the edge of the first giant puddle, he halts his lead, staring at the water with intense suspicion. He cocks his head, calculates the distance, and decides a direct route is out of the question.
Instead, Milo executes a masterpiece of doggy agility. He tiptoes along the narrow grassy verge, balancing like a tightrope walker to bypass the water. When the mud gets a bit too thick, he simply leaps – a magnificent, high-flying hound bounding over the surface, landing with a light tap-tap on the dry pavement beyond.
His efforts don’t go unnoticed. A friendly Golden Retriever trots straight through the middle of the puddle, splashing water everywhere. Milo gives the wet retriever a look of utter aristocratic disdain, huffing softly through his nose as if to say, “Have some decorum, mate.”
Having successfully navigated the watery maze without getting a single toe damp, Milo proudly prances up to the park bench. He sits bolt upright, chest puffed out, waiting patiently for his well-earned digestive biscuit. The local park has been safely surveyed, his paws remain impeccably dry, and the grand park patrol is declared a resounding success.
